Freedom is only the beginning of the Story

Above, Kutty (third from left) with his family and IJM staff members on a day of celebration.

A message from Saju Mathew, IJM Director of Operations - South Asia //

The first time I saw Kutty, he was shaking with fear.

His face was haggard, and his eyes showed the toll years of forced labor had taken on him. Kutty was the first slave I ever met. After more than three years of bondage, Kutty's owner didn't even need barbed wire or high walls to entrap him. Kutty was that scared. "I have four kids in the rice mill working... Even if we are sick, we have to work. We cannot go to our home village for any occasion, or the owner will come after us," he explained. Intimidated by the owner's threats, Kutty shared with IJM the simple, terrible truth that had come to define his life: "I am really scared of him."

Because of support like yours, my team and the local government rescued Kutty and his family from slavery in 2008. His family's life changed forever: His kids went back to school, he and his wife secured good jobs in freedom.

But that's just the beginning of this story...

Note: This is an really encouraging and inspiring story, and I hope you will take a little time to read and it. And if it has touched our heart as it has mine, please feel free to pass it on!

Hope you have a blessed Tuesday!

Seek Him First,
